The gambling oversight body in Pennsylvania has levied fines against Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association and BetMGM for permitting wagers on unauthorized sporting events.
These penalties were affirmed after the regulatory body approved a settlement proposed by its enforcement branch.
The agreement is the outcome of discussions between the enforcement branch and Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association, the operator of the Hollywood Casino in Morgantown, Berks County, and its sports betting partner, BetMGM.
BetMGM was fined $7,500 for accepting bets on the boxing match between Victor Belfort and Evander Holyfield, which took place on September 11, 2021, after the Gaming Control Board stated it had “explicitly informed all operators that betting on this event was not authorized.”
According to regulators, BetMGM received a total of 76 wagers.
Last month, the Gaming Control Board imposed a $10,000 fine on Parx Casino for allowing an 18-year-old to enter the casino and participate in a table game.
Regulators stated that casino personnel permitted the individual to enter the casino and place bets. This action violated Pennsylvania law, which mandates that individuals must be at least 21 years of age to legally enter a casino and gamble.
Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, the entity overseeing the gambling establishment, was penalized by the gaming authorities for violating regulations.
