The Mississippi Gaming Board declared that sports betting income in February more than doubled compared to the same timeframe last year.

The state’s betting income reached $4.6 million (£3.3 million/€3.9 million) in February, compared to $2.1 million in the same timeframe last year and a 49.5% drop from January’s $9.1 million.

In February, bettors placed a total of $47.8 million on sporting events, up from $37.6 million in the same timeframe in 2020, but down 29.4% from January’s wagers.

Coastal casinos were once again the most popular destination for consumers, with income from these establishments reaching $2.7 million in February, with bettors spending $34.7 million at their retail sportsbooks.

Basketball was the favorite sport for coastal casino consumers, with $21.5 million spent and casinos earning $1.3 million in income. Football was also popular, in part due to the NFL Super Bowl in early February, with income reaching $251,941 and $6 million wagered.
