The UK Gaming Authority has declared that Andrew Rhodes will serve as the organization’s temporary Head of Operations for 18 months while they seek a permanent replacement for Neil McArthur.

Rhodes (pictured) joins the Authority with over two decades of experience in both the public and private sectors.

Rhodes has held top positions at the Department for Work and Pensions and the DVLA, and most recently served as Registrar and Chief Operating Officer at Swansea University.

Rhodes stated: “The UK Gaming Authority is one of the most well-known and respected regulatory bodies in the world, and I am honored to be joining the team at this critical juncture.

“Protecting the public and players from gambling harm will continue to be a top priority for our work, and I look forward to meeting with individuals from across the industry and those with lived experience to discuss the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

Rhodes takes over from Neil McArthur, who stepped down earlier this year.

Throughout his time in office, MacArthur implemented a number of changes to UK gambling rules. These included prohibiting the use of credit cards for wagering and making substantial alterations to online slot machine gameplay. Furthermore, the government’s review of the gambling act commenced last year.

Bill Moyes, the head of the Gambling Commission, stated: “Andrew possesses a vast amount of experience, strong leadership qualities, and innovative abilities in both the private and public sectors.

“I am certain that he will be an exceptional addition to the Commission, particularly at a time when gambling regulations and operators are under close examination. I anticipate working closely with Andrew as I relinquish my responsibilities to the new chairman in September.”

The regulatory body will continue its search for a permanent replacement for MacArthur during Rhodes’ 18-month term as CEO.
