Lennart Käll, the top executive at Sweden’s gaming powerhouse, Svenska Spel, is resigning after almost seven years leading the charge. At the helm since 2011, Käll states he’s accomplished his objectives, and the impending transformation of the gaming industry with updated licensing regulations factored into his choice.

His primary aim was to establish Svenska Spel as the benchmark for ethical gaming while solidifying its position as the leading provider of a premium experience.

Simultaneously, the Swedish government has revealed its vision for a modernized gaming landscape, with revised legislation slated for parliamentary review in June and implementation by January 1, 2019.

Commenting on his exit, Käll noted, “Svenska Spel stands at the cusp of a completely new playing field with a restructured gaming market and a fresh roster of rivals. We are actively preparing for this evolving environment and are eager to compete on equal footing. It’s a prime moment for a new leader to assume command and guide Svenska Spel to even greater success.”

Käll will remain through the summer, and Erik Strand, Svenska Spel’s chairman, assures everyone that the search for a suitable replacement is underway.

Strand conveyed his appreciation for the outgoing Käll, remarking, ‘We are deeply indebted to Lennart for his outstanding contributions throughout his seven-year period as CEO. As Sweden’s gaming enterprise, Svenska Spel is well-positioned for the reorganization anticipated by year’s end.’

To clarify, Svenska Spel was founded in 1997 through the amalgamation of two government-owned entities, Penninglotteriet and Tipstjänst. Based in Visby, Sweden, the organization disseminates its offerings through a network of approximately 6,700 representatives, 2,000 eateries, bars, and bingo establishments, as well as digitally.

Looking back on his experience with the firm, Lennart Käll commented, ‘I am pleased with what my leadership group, the staff of Svenska Spel, and I have achieved during my time as CEO. We have fulfilled the directive entrusted to us by the proprietors and demonstrated that we can merge accountability with expansion as a gaming corporation. Svenska Spel is prepared for the emerging gaming marketplace.”
