The Advertising Standards Authority, the United Kingdom’s advertising regulator, expressed displeasure with a recent BetVictor advertisement featuring Barcelona footballers Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The ASA determined the ad violated regulations by holding significant appeal for young individuals, a major concern regarding gambling promotions. It appears there may be consequences for this action.

Felix Faulkner, an attorney with the legal practice Poppleston Allen, reacted to the judgment. He clarified that this current verdict provides increased certainty regarding which sportspersons are subject to the ASA’s updated regulations, especially those competing for international clubs. This is noteworthy because it expands the ASA’s jurisdiction and surpasses their original understanding of the CAP Code, enacted last October.
